The Las Vegas Raiders continue to bolster their depth in attempts to rebound from their 8-9 campaign last year. After signing former Dallas Cowboys wideout Michael Gallup, the Raiders have landed another piece to round out the receiver room.

Las Vegas signed former Los Angeles Charger Jalen Guyton on Monday, via Raiders PR. Guyton has been with the Chargers for the last five seasons, recording 71 receptions for 1,112 yards and seven touchdowns to go with 34 rushing yards on nine carries.

Raiders general manager Tom Telesco knows Guyton well from his time in Los Angeles. Telesco signed him as an undrafted free agent back in 2019, and he’s now bringing Guyton over in his first year in Las Vegas.

What are Guyton’s prospects with the Raiders? Will he make any noise this year?

While Guyton has done well to last this long in the league as an undrafted free agent, he’s also coming off of a weak season. Last year, the North Texas alum posted just 10 catches for 89 yards and a touchdown.

Guyton will get his chance to rebound, but he’ll have to stand out in a crowded receiver room. As of now, Las Vegas also has Gallup, Davante Adams, Jakobi Meyers, Jeff Foreman, Tulu Griffin, Ramel Keyton, Tre Tucker, DJ Turner, and Kristian Wilkerson on the roster, via Raiders.com.

Adams, Gallup, and Meyers will undoubtedly take the top three spots on the depth chart. After that, the pecking order gets murky.

Foreman, Keyton, and Griffin are rookie un-drafted free agents out of Arkansas State, Tennessee, and Mississippi State, respectively. Tucker, who was the team’s 2023 third-round pick, is probably safe. The Cincinnati alum recorded 19 catches for 331 yards and two touchdowns in his rookie year.

Turner and Wilkerson, however, could be in trouble. Turner is a third-year player who hasn’t yet recorded an NFL catch, and Wilkerson only has four career receptions himself.

On paper, Guyton should theoretically be able to make the roster as a fifth receiver. However, rookie undrafted free agents can sometimes be diamonds in the rough, so the speedster will have to stay on his toes.

Guyton is now the team’s second free-agent wideout to come after the draft, joining Gallup. This isn’t a big surprise, as the team failed to address the position during the draft. However, the Raiders did select Georgia tight end Brock Bowers 13th overall, who will undoubtedly demand a significant target share.

Another tricky aspect for Guyton is the quarterback situation that he’s walking into. Las Vegas has one of the weakest signal-caller rooms in the league, with Aidan O’Connell and Gardner Minshew as the top options. Wide receiver production is heavily tied to the quality of the quarterback, so it could be hard for Guyton to stand out in camp if they can’t get him the ball consistently.

However, if he happens to build chemistry with either one of them, it will bode well for his chances. Guyton is the type of player who will need to heavily rely on training camp and preseason to solidify his role.
