Shai Gilgeous-Alexander gets brutally honest on his heartbreaking Game 6 mistake for Thunder

The Dallas Mavericks are moving on to the Western Conference Finals as they have eliminated the one seed in the West, the Oklahoma City Thunder. Game 6 was on Saturday night, and it was a thriller. The Thunder had a big lead in the second half of the game, but the Mavericks found a way to come back and make it close for the final stretch. Oklahoma City had the lead with under 10 seconds to go, but Shai Gilgeous-Alexander fouled P.J. Washington on a three with three seconds left. He made two then purposefully missed the third, and Dallas won the game.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander had a huge performance as he ended up with 36 points, which was the most out of any player in the game. Unfortunately, he did commit the costly foul. The foul was reviewed and it was a bit of a controversial call, but it stood. After the game, Gilgeous-Alexander said that it was a foul, and he knew he made a mistake.

“I shouldn’t have fouled him,” Gilgeous-Alexander said, according to Anthony Slater of The Athletic. “We talk about it all year, the little things that go into winning games, being disciplined. It sucks, obviously if I had the moment back I wouldn’t have fouled him and just let him make or miss the shot.”

Gilgeous-Alexander was also asked if he has seen the replay of the foul. He doesn’t want to look at it, and he trusts that the officials made the right call.

“Nah, I can’t look at it,” Gilgeous-Alexander said. “But, they looked at it and I assume I fouled him because they looked at it and didn’t overturn it. …I don’t want to look at it. I fouled him, clearly, because they reviewed it and I fouled him, so there’s no need to look at it.”

The Thunder finished with the best record in the West this year and they earned the one seed, but they are now out before the conference finals. This isn’t how they envisioned their postseason run going.
